Tequila 61

If you are looking for a unique experience with amazing food and service, this Mexican Gastrobar in downtown Anchorage is the place for you.

Tequila 61 is a great spot located in downtown Anchorage with amazing service and high quality drinks. Upon arrival to the restaurant, you are greeted by Edison light bulbs and friendly service, which will set the tone for the rest of your dining experience. The combination of rustic, industrial, and modern Mexican decor is the perfect backdrop for a date night or a gathering with friends.

The restaurant’s glossy, warm toned wood tabletops beautifully contrast the cool toned shiny metal chairs. Tequila’s varied table options are able to accommodate any size group, and booths that are tucked out of view from the main dining areas provide a more intimate dining experience. Edison style light bulbs cast the room in a warm glow, adding to the cozy vibes.

The carefully curated drink menu is filled with specialty cocktails that are a theatrical experience. My husband ordered the Smokey Pete, a dark rum based drink that comes in a smoke filled ‘book’. I ordered a Spoonful of Berries, which was a perfectly balanced cocktail with lemon meringue floated on top. The bar also offers a broad variety of draft beers and wines. For those of you whom do not partake in alcohol, there is a variety of non-alcoholic beverages as well.

If the drinks are not enough to entice you to try Tequila 61, the food should do it. We ordered the jalapeño poppers as an appetizer and were rewarded with three large jalapeños. These pack a little bit of a punch as the seeds were left inside. My husband and I were both craving steak, so we each got a ribeye dish. I absolutely recommend either of these dishes. Mine was served in a sizzling Molcajete (lava rock elevated bowl). It was both beautiful and delicious.

Tequila 61 offers a unique dining experience complete with specialty drinks and a beautifully curated menu. The next time you are looking for an experience, make a reservation at Tequila 61.
